Company & Position Overview
Join our growing team of accountants and controllers to service a group of companies throughout multiple industries, with a primary focus on the dairy industry. You’ll play a key role in the financial reporting, forecasting, and consulting for a dedicated portfolio of clients. Each month you will lead the general ledger operations to ensure accurate financial reporting that leadership relies for critical business decisions. At Ag Business Solutions, our mission is to assist crop and dairy farmers manage their business, so they can focus their time and energies in providing the highest level of care to their animals, farms and bringing healthy farm fresh food and high-quality dairy products to America at low prices, while providing a source of income for their families and employees.
Our staff of CPAs and highly credentialed professionals provide daily administrative and accounting services through direct interaction with ownership and on-site management. Powered by sophisticated, ever-evolving IT platform, we support multiple dairies, cattle, and row-crop farming operations throughout the country. In addition, our ability to assist producers in managing price risk in the areas of livestock, feed, and milk truly sets us apart.
Position Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Controllers on daily finance and accounting activities
- Cost accounting: Cattle inventory and feed inventory reconciliation, entries, and accruals
- Prepare intercompany and external invoice requests
- Maintain balance sheet schedules including accrued and prepaid expenses and deferred revenue
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations
- Maintain accounting for new construction and capital projects, including cost tracking, capitalization, and financial analysis.
- Review monthly G/L activity and prepare corresponding accruals
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries
- Maintain fixed asset schedules
- Assist with monthly financial statement preparation of various cattle, real estate and supporting entities
- Compile various monthly reports for owners and stakeholders
- Assist with year-end close activities and prepare schedules and documentation required for external financial statement audits and CPA-prepared tax returns
- Miscellaneous projects and analysis as needed
Ideal Candidate
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Experience: 3 + years of accounting experience preferred
- Industry Focus: Prior experience in agricultural, manufacturing, or other operationally intensive industries strongly preferred
- Core Skills: Experience with account reconciliation, inventory costing, and month-end close processes
- Reporting: Familiarity with financial statement analysis and preparation preferred
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Excel and experience working with accounting/ERP systems
- Tech-Forward Mindset: Willingness to embrace, evaluate, and implement new IT-based solutions to automate and improve processes
- Time Management: A reliable self-starter able to manage multiple priorities and multi-task to meet deadlines
- Controls & Efficiency: Strong understanding of processes and controls with the mindset focused on continuous improvement
- Execution: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with a high attention to detail
- Culture Fit: Posses strong written and verbal communication skills with a genuine interest for working closely with a small, collaborative team
Work Hours
- This is a full-time position, while standard hours are typically 40 hours per week, additional hours may be required during peak periods, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, as well as during major projects
